Planning basement finishing

Do not conceal an unresolved water concern behind a new wall. Describe when it happens and what you have observed. The source and appropriate response need review before finish decisions become commitments. The same applies to structural concerns: a finished surface is not a substitute for understanding the condition beneath it.
Headroom and circulation deserve a walk-through rather than a quick glance at a floor plan. Picture carrying furniture down the stairs, moving between rooms and reaching equipment. A layout that looks generous on paper can feel very different when a low duct or a doorway interrupts the route.
Mechanical equipment, valves, panels and other service points still need appropriate access after the basement is finished. Mark them on the plan before allocating every remaining corner to storage or seating.
